What is PRP?
- 45 mins
PRP, or platelet rich plasma, is an advanced treatment in aesthetics. Also known as the ‘vampire facial’, PRP uses the body’s own blood to derive platelet rich plasma which is then used to stimulate skin cell growth and renewal. PRP works by stimulating the skin’s stem cells to regenerate new collagen and elastin and remove damaged skin cells. This results in rejuvenation of the skin and helps to slow and reverse the signs of ageing. Platelet rich plasma contains platelets which contain growth factors. These are responsible for wound healing, tissue regeneration, collagen production, vascular re-growth, connective tissue formation and bone mineralisation.

How The PRP Facial Works
Before your treatment you will undergo a consultation to determine your suitability and expectations of the treatment. This may be done at a separate time prior to your treatment or on the same day.
The Treatment
Once we have established your suitability for the treatment we will draw blood just as though you were having a regular blood test. The blood is then placed in a centrifuge and spun to separate the plasma from the red blood cells.
We will begin your treatment by thoroughly cleansing your skin. The Platelet Rich Plasma is then applied to your skin using our advanced micro-needling system, this action will ensure deep penetration and activation of the platelets into the dermis where your cell regeneration and collagen growth take place.
The needling process usually takes approximately 10 to 20 minutes depending on the area/s being treated. You will experience an immediate tightness in the skin. We will finalise your treatment by applying a hyaluronic acid soothing mask which will hydrate and comfort the skin.
Home Care
Your skin will be red the day of the treatment with it subsiding over a couple of days. It is preferable not to cleanse or apply any other products or make-up to your skin on the day of your treatment. The following morning you may cleanse with a gentle cleanser and apply gentle, hydrating products to your skin. You will usually experience a slight dryness in the skin for the following week or so, so it is important to moisturise regularly.
What To Expect
Growth factors from your platelet rich plasma stimulate stem cell release which causes the skin to create new collagen, new blood vessels and healthy new cells. This process takes place over the next 4 to 8 weeks following your treatment.
Side effects
During the healing process, the following may occur:
- swelling
- minor itching
- bruising
- flaking
- redness
- hives
DO NOT pick, squeeze or agitate the area that has been treated during the recovery period
